Depth Charge Explodes At Wolverhampton
Last time out he ran the fastest closing sectional on the card and earned an adjusted speed rating far in advance of his official rating.
One of the joys of horse racing is witnessing a scintillating performance but unfortunately many go unnoticed at a lower grade. Just like the one Depth Charge delivered eleven days ago. The 4-year-old had shown moderate ability for Jeremy Noseda but it could be that Kristin Stubbs has found the key.
In a class 5 claimer he came from last to first, winning in the style of a good horse. It was completely unexpected, he was sent off at 33/1 but the performance was genuine.
He clocked a 23.2s closing sectional, the fastest in the race by 0.7s and the quickest on the seven race card.
The finishing speed was 103.9% of the overall race speed, which indicates a quicker finish than par but nothing out of the ordinary.
We have to take Depth Charge’s performance at face value. It earned him a sectional adjusted speed rating of 73 and there is possibly more to come as Robert Havlin never went for his whip.
Racing in the same grade, over course and distance it is unlikely a 6lbs penalty can stop him.
