Cut The Funding Deficit
Funding Deficit only beaten 2 lengths in a much better race a fortnight ago and won’t mind cut in the ground.
The 4.25 Ascot is a class 3 handicap on paper but with a large spread of ability in the race, it reads more like a class 4 contest.
It therefore represents a significant drop in grade for Funding Deficit who was last seen at Newmarket finishing eighth only 2-lengths behind the winner in class 2 handicap.
With a furlong to go he was travelling well enough to think he might challenge for the win but his run petered out perhaps the result of having to challenge widest off all.
This afternoon Mrs C Bartley takes the ride and she has a 12% strike rate (5-41) when riding for Jim Goldie.
The softening conditions won’t inconvenience the horse and a big run is expected at a decent price.
