Coventry Stakes: Age Of Kings

Green on debut but left that behind when deeply impressive at the Curragh. Quickened off steady pace, with a closing sectional that hasn't been bettered at the track all season.

The Coventry Stakes (3.05 Ascot) is brim-full of my tracker horses, as you would expect from one of the hottest and deepest juvenile contests of the season. There’s several I could make a case for but at the prices I like Age Of Kings.

He was very green on debut, flashing his tail and losing by a nose but he improved markedly for the experience when at easy winner at the Curragh last time. The early pace wasn’t very strong but he showed a tremendous turn of foot to cover the final 3f in 34.08s, the fastest closing sectional recorded at the track this season.

I doubt Age Of Kings beat much but an already fair speed ratings gets a whopping upgrade from that sectional and visually it was just as impressive; with potentially much more the come. On breeding he should get further in time but he’s got the speed already to be competitive against sprinters.
