Coral Sprint Tip: Brian The Snail

'Won' his race up the middle at Ayr and also ran well from a poor draw at Chelmsford. Handicapper gives him a chance off a career low mark.

The Ayr Gold Cup was a bit of a messy race but Brian The Snail comes out with credit. He finished ninth but was best of those who raced up the middle and although he has won on soft ground I doubt the heavy conditions suited him, given how much he tired at the end of the race.

The 4-year-old has been running in all the big sprint handicaps this season without making much of an impact but his form is steadily improving. Before his effort at Ayr he wasn’t beaten far at Chelmsford from a poor draw.

In June he won nicely at Doncaster off a mark of 95 and the handicapper has given him a chance again off 94 today. He’s not the most consistent but Richard Fahey always deserves respect when a big pot is involved.
