Chester Tips: Russian Soul
Has been running well on the all-weather from poor draws, off a much higher mark.
There’s a bit of a theme with my bets today, punting all-weather horses on turf but the handicapper seems to have made a misjudgement with Russian Soul in the 5.05 Chester.
For some reason, he races off a mark of 82, that’s 9lbs lower then when he last raced on turf in September at Leopardstown. Sure, he’s better on an artificial surface but he won a Group 3 on good ground at the Curragh in 2013 so he can perform on grass.
Despite his advancing years, the 9-year-old has been revitalised by a move to Jamie Osborne. He’s yet to win for his new trainer but he’s been desperately unlucky with a succession of poor draws and has been putting up good speed figures in defeat. Stall 8 isn’t ideal but is workable and he’s far better than a mark of 82.
