Chester: Mondammej

Bad behaviour before and in the stalls has cost him races but was much calmer at Pontefract and ran a blinder as a result. Fastest closer by 0.62s and capable of big speed figures. Exciting.

Mondammej has been a frustrating horse to follow, full of such promise but a naughty boy who often throws away the race before it has begun. I’m not suggesting he is a reformed character but comments after his win at Pontefract could be instructive. Cam Hardie described him as ‘pitch perfect’ and there is every chance he matures into a smart sprinter.

His win at Pontefract was easy as you like (against good horses) and his closing sectional was the quickest in the race by 0.62s. He ran a big speed figure on debut at Newcastle and if he can get his attitude right he could win a few big pots this season.

He is well drawn in stall 2, handles a turning track and is well handicapped off a mark of 86.
