Cheltenham Tips: Little Jon

Should find life easier in a handicap having faced strong opposition recently. Unlikely we’ve seen the best of him.

Go through the 2.25 Cheltenham and you can almost split the field in two. Those at the top of the handicap are thoroughly exposed and the handicapper isn’t doing them any favours despite their advancing years.

The interesting runners lurk in the bottom half of the handicap and Little Jon must have a good chance.

He looked a decent chaser in the making when winning at Newton Abbott and wasn’t beaten far in a good quality novice chase at Cheltenham on his next start. However, since then everything has gone wrong, he fell on his last start and ran out the start before.

Two of his last three races have been in Graded company and returned to handicaps he could be thrown in off a mark of 140.

Younger horses have a good record in the race, 7-year-olds and 8-year-olds have won six of the last 10 renewals beating 55.2% of their rivals (source: Timeform).

With his best days still ahead of him Little Jon looks a good bet at 11/2 (BetVictor).
