World Hurdle Trials By Time

World Hurdle sectional analysis

We revisit the results of the World Hurdle trials by using sectional time analysis.

Next up in our series of big race sectional analysis is the World Hurdle.

As noted previously we have timed sections of the race, usually the final 2f/3f, to see how this influences the overall time.

World Hurdle Trials
world hurdle trialsBefore we analyse the times it is worth pointing out National Hunt data is notoriously unreliable, therefore all figures should be taken with a large pinch of salt.

Cleeve Hurdle Tops Speed Ratings
In terms of Topspeed ratings, the Cleeve Hurdle (24 Jan) comes out best. The speed rating was unusually high for a race not run at a flat-out gallop, suggesting the first three are all smart horses.

If the World Hurdle is run under a different pace scenario we could see the placings altered. However, last year’s renewal was steadily run with a finishing speed of 105.1%.

Rock On Ruby Opposable
Rock On Ruby has yet to be tested at 3m and he’s been fortunate that neither of his Cheltenham victories this season have been run at a strong gallop.

Harry Fry’s horse has run moderate times in even paced races, over an inadequate trip. He has it all to prove.

Monksland On The Comeback
Monksland returned from a two-year absence in December and ran an absolute cracker at Leopardstown.

The race turned into a sprint two flights from home and held up in rear, Monksland had too much ground to recover.

To get within 5.75 lengths of the winner was some effort and on better ground, tracking a stronger pace he could be a big danger.
