World Hurdle Tips: Voler La Vedette

Improved this season and proven at three-miles. A Grade 1 winner, she could pick up the pieces and sneak into a place.

Big Buck’s looks difficult to beat in the World Hurdle at 3.20 with the rest playing for minor honours. One of, or both, Oscar Whisky and Thousand Stars are expected to give the favourite a good race but I suspect they are better suited to the 2m4f of the Aintree Hurdle, rather than this stiff 3-mile test.

If one of the top three falter it could open the door for Voler La Vedette to sneak into a place. She seems to have improved this season, winning three of her four races and earning a career best Racing Post Rating. That was gained in the Christmas Hurdle at Leopardstown. It wasn’t the strongest field but she looked impressive in winning by 4.5 lengths in similar conditions to today’s race.

At 25/1 (Boylesports) she can be backed each way with ¼ odds for a top-3 finish. If she can sneak a place it is equivalent to slightly better than a 5/1 winner, and therefore worth the risk.
