Triumph Hurdle Tips: Grumeti

Has all the qualities you’d wish for; course and distance form, a sound jumper and strong battler.

The bookmakers are struggling to separate those horses at the top of the market in the Triumph Hurdle (1.30 Friday), but there are a couple of factors they are overlooking.

Baby Mix is the top rated horse in the field but I worry about his jumping. A bad mistake at Cheltenham cost him the race and he still looked very green when victorious at Kempton last time out.

Grumeti , on the other hand, already looks like a ready-made Triumph winner. He is a sound jumper and straightforward to train according to Alan King. He was a course and distance winner in January, and although the race was handed to him in the steward’s room, he showed a tremendous attitude to battle Pearl Swan up the home straight.

Having gone for the finishing line early, he was left a sitting duck. Under the circumstances, he was more impressive than Pearl Swan who enjoyed the run of the race. Grumeti gets the nod at 6/1 with Boylesports.
