Supreme Novices’ Hurdle Tips: Wicklow Brave

Has been winning races despite not getting the strong pace he needs. No worries about that in the Supreme and we get our money back if he fails to win but finishes in the top four.

Bookmakers want your business on the first day of the Festival and it means there are some cracking special offers around.

Paddy Power have one of the best, refunding losing bets in the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle if your selection finish second, third or fourth.

Normally I would be looking to back a long priced horse with potential but Paddy Power’s offer has forced an about-turn in strategy.

To capitalise on the offer you need to back a horse with a strong chance of finishing in the top-4, whilst also harbouring hopes of victory.

Wicklow Brave fits the bill. He won a Listed contest on his last start, earning a Racing Post Rating of 146 which places him amongst the best horses in the field but there is also an upside to his form.

Usually waited with in midfield, Wicklow Brave has struggled to find races with a strong pace which means we’ve not seen the best of him yet.

At Punchestown, the Gigginstown pair of Lieutenant Colonel and Real Steel were able to dictate a slow pace and sprint for home. Not the sort of contest Wicklow Brave usually enjoys but he showed an excellent burst of speed to overturn a five-length deficit in a matter of strides.

Real Steel boosted the form by winning a Grade 2 at Naas and with a strong pace almost guaranteed in the Supreme, Wicklow Brave is a good bet at 13/2 with Paddy Power
