Supreme Novices’ Hurdle Tips: Altior

Altior clocked an adjusted speed rating of 146 at Kempton and doesn’t need much more to match past winners of the Supreme.

The Supreme Novice’s Hurdle (1.30) is a terrific race to kick start the Cheltenham Festival and there are several potentially top-class horses in the line-up.

The last five Supreme’s have been won with speed ratings of 155-149-154-150-148 and something similar will be needed to win the 2016 edition.

Sectional Adjusted Speed Ratings

These are young, improving horses with plenty more to come but one horses has already proven capable of running a big speed rating – Altior.

A four-time winner this season, he’s gone from strength to strength and was a stunning 13 length winner at Kempton on Boxing Day. Off a solid gallop, he scooted home covering the final 5.45f over 3 seconds faster than his nearest rival. It wasn’t like he beat trees either, with Open Eagle and Marracudja useful yardsticks in behind.

Min still has to find a few pounds in official ratings and on the clock, which makes him easy to swerve at the price. Altior has the form and ratings in the book and is a fair bet at 4/1 especially with Skybet refunding all losing bets as a free bet up to £25.
