RSA Chase Tips: If In Doubt

If In Doubt back McCoy

Didn’t pull up any trees over hurdles but won the valuable Skybet Chase earning a rating similar to the best achieved by Kings Palace and Don Poli.

It has been six years since a favourite last won the RSA Chase and I think there could be a surprise in the latest renewal.

If In Doubt hasn’t got the profile of a superstar, he never won anything better than a class 3 hurdle but the market underestimates his ability as a chaser.

His chase career got off to an inauspicious start when he unseated AP McCoy at the second fence at Exeter.

He then finished 1.25 lengths behind the useful Sego Success (winner again since) on soft ground at Wetherby but since then he’s blossomed.

A facile victory at Catterick was followed up by an impressive win in the valuable Skybet Chase at Doncaster.

That win earned him a Racing Post Rating of 157, equal to the best rating awarded to Kings Palace and 2lbs better than anything Don Poli has achieved.

If In Doubt seems at his best of faster ground, he is 3/7 on good to soft or quicker but only 1/6 on soft/heavy going.

A strong pace will suit and at 12/1 (Paddy Power) he is underrated by the bookmakers.
