RSA Chase Tips: Goulanes

Inexperienced but rapidly improving. Stays the distance and a tough competitor who looks tailor-made for Cheltenham.

Looking through the field of the RSA Chase (2.40 Cheltenham – Wed), I’m not convinced there are any superstars. Unioniste looks pegged around the low 150s and 3-miles might be the limit of his stamina. The same comment applies to Boston Bob and Hadrian’s Approach.

The horse I’m most excited about is Goulanes.

For an inexperienced hurdler, having only his second start over timbers, I was impressed by the way he held off more seasoned rivals to win at Cheltenham in November.

David Pipe quickly moved him into novice chasing company and he pulled out further improvement to run down Super Duty in the Towton Novices’ Chase at Wetherby.

This will be only his sixth career start, but he is improving rapidly and has bundles of determination and stamina. At 7/1 (Bet365) he could spring a minor surprise.
