Gold Cup Tips: Boston Bob

boston bob gold cup tips

A multiple Grade 1 winner who hasn’t been able to show his best form in steadily run races.

We have already highlighted Many Clouds as value in the win market but he isn’t the only overpriced horse.

Boston Bob is priced as an outsider but there is every chance he outruns his odds.

The key to Boston Bob is a strong pace on ideally good ground, neither of which he has got this season.

The John Durkan (7 Dec) was short of his best trip whilst the Lexus (28 Dec) and Hennessy Gold Cup (8 Feb) were both steadily run affairs.

In both races at Leopardstown he was held-up in rear and unable to strike as the pace quickened for home. The Hennessy was probably the best example, where he came from last two-out, to finish fourth.

We shouldn’t forget last spring Boston Bob won the Melling Chase and Punchestown Gold Cup- both Grade 1s.

It is unlikely he has lost that ability and in a strongly run race he is a great each-way bet at 25/1 with Betfred one of the few bookmakers paying 1/4 odds for a top-3 finish.
