Coral Cup Tips: Automated
Impressive winner at Navan and has improved for the step up in trip. Potentially even better on a faster surface judged on his flat form.
The Festival has started well for Gordon Elliott and it could get even better in the Coral Cup. He saddles the favourite, Tombstone but stable companion Automated deserves to be in the conversation.
He showed his hand to a certain extent when winning at Navan but he needed the hike in the weights to get into a Cheltenham handicap. He races off a 15lbs higher mark but he’s still unexposed.
His record at 20f and beyond is 341 and he travelled supremely well, when taking a valuable handicap last time. His turf form suggests he’ll be even better on a quicker surface and this 6-year-old is heading in the right direction.
He’s accustomed to the hustle and bustle of a big handicap hurdle and is a good each-way bet at 14/1 (Paddy Power) with 1/5 odds for a top-6 finish and money back if he finishes second.
