Cheltenham Tips: Princeton Plains

Enjoys these big field handicaps and did best of those held up at Newbury on his last start.

Princeton Plains has run well in valuable hurdle handicaps in recent years without quite making the frame. He’s finished 8th and 6th in the last two Galway Hurdles and filled the same two positions on his last two starts in the UK. Usually held-up off the pace, he loves the strong gallop generated by these big handicaps.

The key to his chances in the 2.05 Cheltenham (Fri) was the run behind My Tent Or Yours at Newbury. He was beaten 16-lengths but was the highest placed finisher of those held-up during the race, a good performance on a day when it favoured those racing near the pace.

A P McCoy has not enjoyed much luck at the Festival so far, but he has ridden the horse twice and finished second twice. At 20/1 (Boylesports) he represents a decent each-way bet with ¼ odds for a top-5 finish.
