Champion Chase Tip: Ar Mad

Was a talented novice who suffered with injury last season. Will go hard from the front and might just burn enough off to grab a place.

Altior, Douvan and Min are taking a huge chunk out of the market but there is a chance that two of them under-perform. Douvan hasn’t been himself since injury in this race last year and it’s a big ask to come back and win a Grade 1 a year later having not set foot on a racetrack.

Min has a chance of giving Altior a scare if he reproduces the form of his Leopardstown win but he’s only got one Grade 1 to his name, the same number as Ar Mad. Gary Moore’s charge was an exciting novice before last season was completely ruined by injury.

The 8-year-old is working his way back and I was impressed by his close third in the Tingle Creek, when he set an unusually strong gallop. With first time cheek-pieces he’s likely to make the running again and we saw last year with Special Tiara that a front-runner can be hard to peg back.

Ar Mad’s won on heavy going before and at 66/1 he’s a fair each-way bet with 3 places at 1/5 odds.
