Chelmsford Tips: Verne Castle
Course and distance record is 111 and underrated given his lack of form on turf, a surface he's never handled.
The 7.40 Chelmsford is a strong race for the grade and contains several horses we enjoyed watching over the winter. Many have embarked turf campaigns but that is not the case with Verne Castle. He is still a maiden on grass and flopped at Ascot in July.
A return to the all-weather should see him to better effect and his record around Chelmsford is a tremendous 111. The 4-year-old has a tricky draw to overcome but he’s not handicapped out of it and could run a big race.
