Chelmsford Tips: Spiritual Star
Posted 4-wide in a steadily run race but beaten under 4-lengths. Should enjoy a space saving trip from stall 3.
The draw on its own isn’t normally a barrier to victory on the all-weather but it can prove problematic when combined with pace. Last time out Spiritual Star was drawn in stall 11/13 when the winner came from 12 but whilst Russian Reward got the front of a steadily run race, Spiritual Star was marooned 4-wide.
This continued for the entire race as the field was tightly bunched because of the pedestrian early gallop – there were never the gaps for Paddy Bradley to edge into.
Under the circumstances Spiritual Star did well to finish sixth only beaten 3.87 lengths, clocking the fifth fastest closing sectional despite covering more ground than anyone else.
On his penultimate start he finished a clear second behind a progressive 3-year-old, running a fast time in the process. From stall 3 we can expect a big run.
