Chelmsford Tip: Red Stripes
Five-time course and distance winner who returns to Chelmsford for first time since September. Has been running well at Wolverhampton without much luck and deserves another win.
Red Stripes has been running well this winter without getting his nose in front but a return to Chelmsford can make the difference. Five of his six career wins have come over course and distance and the speed favouring nature of the track lends itself to his running style.
On his last visit to the Essex venue, he finished second off the same mark. My main concern is whether he gets and easy lead, all of his wins have come in single digit fields but he’s well drawn in stall 6 and a bigger field doesn’t automatically guarantee a stronger pace.
Sky To My Lou is the obvious danger but the gamble has already been landed with that one and stall 11 isn’t ideal.
