Chelmsford Tip: How’s Lucy

Chelmsford Tip: How’s Lucy

Set an overly strong pace last time and paid for it at the finish, covering the final 3f much slower than par. A more sympathetic ride can produce dividends.

There was bits of money for How’s Lucy on her handicap debut at Chelmsford last month and it looked like she might collect with a furlong to go but unfortunately, she paid for her early exertions.

Sent to the front by Danny Brock, she got involved in a pace duel with Echoism. It wasn’t visually obvious but the race finishing speed was 96% of the overall speed, indicating a pace collapse.

Given how tired How’s Lucy got, she was swaying around like a drunk in the final furlong, it is to her immense credit that she was only beaten a length and finished 15.5 lengths ahead of Echoism.

A drop in trip works in her favour in the 4.20 Chelmsford but perhaps more important is that Danny Brock conserves some energy for the finish. If he can, How’s Lucy should lose her maiden tag in this low grade.
