Chelmsford: Cape Columbus
Raced down the unfavoured centre of the track when third at Newcastle. Has big speed figures to his name including a whopper on debut at Nottingham (race has worked out well).
Al Shoughor needs to be fired from the roll of favouritism in the 5.00 Chelmsford. She is coming back from a 257-day break, has a penalty to shoulder and only moderate speed figures to her name.
With a string of placed efforts but no wins; Cape Columbus might appear a bad bet at face value but he’s not had much luck. He ran a huge speed figure on debut in a strong novices race at Nottingham and since then things haven’t fallen right.
At Newcastle he finished a good third considering he raced in the centre of the track, the worst place to be this autumn/winter. I think he is well handicapped of a mark of 66 but connections are persisting with the novice route and he is perfectly capable of winning a race in this sphere.
