Catterick Tips: Halinka
Unlucky loser when fastest closer by 0.57s on her last start. Should be able to shed maiden tag.
The 5.15 Catterick is an ordinary maiden but Halinka might be a bit better than most of these. For starters, she hails from the Roger Varian yard, which isn’t prone to having duff horses and perhaps more importantly she has hinted at some ability.
After a lacklustre autumn campaign, she rounded off the year with a highly respectable second at Wolverhampton. Held up from a wide draw, she was left with significant ground to make up into a quickening pace.
Her closing 2f was 0.57s quicker than anything else in the race and she probably would have won in another couple of strides. The overall time wasn’t impressive but her turn of foot marks her out as potentially better than her mark. She’s run well on turf before, gets the trip and should go close.
