Brighton: Vandad

Can't quite get his head in front but has been rock solid in defeat and this by far the easiest task he's faced in a long while. On speed ratings I have him stones ahead of the rest.

Punters might be wary of backing a 17-race maiden, especially one that has placed on 9 occasions but I think this is the right race for Vandad. Granted he carries 10lbs more than his 3-year-old rivals but he has stones in hand on form.

Last time out he finished a close third in a class 4 handicap at Sandown, setting a true gallop and earning a speed rating of 71 in defeat. That’s now three places efforts in a row each with a good speed rating.

His prominent style of racing is an advantage in a small field and he looks solid; as fair as exposed maidens can be.
