Brighton Tips: Glenalmond

Brighton Tips: Glenalmond

Formerly smart juvenile who has tumbled down the weights. Having his first start for new trainer.

The 3.20 Brighton is a valuable mile handicap but the field has been decimated by the recent rain at the track. The official going report is good to soft, soft in places but the track drains quickly and on a warm day it shouldn’t be bottomless.

The going is crucial for Glenalmond because he’s finished tailed off the three occasions he’s run on genuinely soft/heavy ground.

The most recent of these came at Ayr but if you are willing to forgive his going related flops then he was a chance.  On his penultimate start he was only beaten 3.5 lengths at Carlisle when setting a furious gallop that resulted in a course record time.

His finishing speed was 94.3% of his average race speed and once you factor in a wide draw it was a good effort to finish so close.

Once rated 107 there is ability locked away and perhaps Daniel Steele can find the key after buying him out of Karl Burke’s yard. His new trainer is something of an unknown (this only his fourth flat runner in 5 seasons) but Fergus Sweeney makes the trip to Brighton for just one ride so perhaps someone knows something.
