Brighton Tip: Upavon
Finished second four times in 2019 but has mixed that with some abject performances. Three-time winner at track and worth the risk off a low mark. Fourth in this race in 2017 when 18lbs higher.
Upavon is the lowest rated horse by quite some distance in the Brighton Bullet but it’s a track he usually runs well at and that might help close the gap with the better horses.
It’s been a slightly strange 2019 for the 9-year-old, he started it with a strong performance at Kempton but since then has finished second in claimers and sellers and nowhere in handicaps. He ran about as well as could be expected when a distance second behind Tomily at Windsor but rather disappointed on his next start at Bath.
I’m willing to forgive that run because his course record reads 1114348. Again we have to forgive his no-show at the track in April (reared and gave away 6 lengths at start) but he’s well handicapped on his best form; he finished fourth in the race in 2017 off a 18lbs higher mark.
