Beverley Tips: Orewa
Hampered from a wide draw but flew home. Covered the final 3f in a time 1.5s quicker than his nearest rival.
Not only does Orewa have experience on his side in the 2.30 Beverley, he is a course and distance winner and that gives him a big edge over his unraced rivals.
Brian Ellison’s colt has to carry a penalty because of that victory but he could be a useful sprinter because he won despite everything going wrong.
A wide draw was made even worse after he was hampered exiting the gates and after a furlong he was being scrubbed along in rear.
Ridden to make up ground off an even pace, he got back into the contest and then flew past the opposition as if they weren’t there, running the closing sectional 1.5s faster than his rivals.
Despite racing green, his terrific closing sectional earned him an adjusted speed rating of 80 and with a better draw this afternoon he should win again at 6/4 (Stan James).
