Ayr Tips: Bajan Bear

Has thrived since moving to Dandy Nicholls and his performance at Thirsk, runner-up from a bad draw, was impressive.

Runners from the Dandy Nicholls yard should always be respected in big sprint handicaps like the 2.40 Ayr and it is interesting to see his horses line-up next to each other in stalls four, six and seven.

It opens up the opportunity for team tactics and I doubt they will get in each others’ way.

Of the trio, Bajan Bear looks the best bet. He moved to Dandy Nicholls during the summer and the change of scenery has seen him win twice already.

His most impressive performance came in defeat at Thirsk on his penultimate start.

Adrian Nicholls forfeited several lengths when he took the drastic measure of switching his mount to the stand’s side rail from a wide draw in stall seven.

It’s hard to say if that cost him the race but he was only beaten by 1.25 lengths and started his run from further back than the progressive winner, Compton Park.

Last time out Bajan Bear ran as if something was amiss, in the last 200 yards he was pulling very hard and I would not be surprise if he was hurting because of a lost a shoe.

Forget that run and he’s a live contender based on his Thirsk form and at 18/1 (William Hill) he is a good bet in an admittedly tricky race.
