Ayr Gold Cup: Hey Jonesy

Ran well early in the season and often saved for an autumn campaign. Has slipped to an attractive mark and has conditions to suit. Has the ability and overpriced.

Hey Jonesy hasn’t been seen for 56 days but he followed a similar pattern last season before finishing the autumn with a career-best showing at Doncaster in the Listed Wentworth Stakes. Now rated 103 (from a peak of 110) heritage handicaps are a realistic prospect and it makes sense if he were trained for this race in mind.

Six furlongs is his optimal trip and he handles juice in the ground. A strike rate of 1/16 is slightly off-putting but he’s genuine enough and has been unlucky to finish second on five separate occasions.

This is his first visit to Ayr but I believe the sharp track will suit his front-running style and the first time visor has probably been held up for this special occasion and big pot!
