Ascot Tips: Haddaf
Almost upset the odds-on Never Back Down and earned a massive adjusted speed rating on debut.
Haddaf gave odds-on backers a massive scare when he ran Never Back Down close at Leicester at the end of April. A neck separated the pair at the finish and Haddaf was arguably the unluckier of the two. Leicester was his debut whilst Never Back Down already had a run under his belt.
Sectionals also paint Haddaf’s performance in a positive light. The winner got first run, after setting a steady gallop whereas Haddaf came from further back but ran a faster closing sectional by 0.15s.
When adjusting for pace, I gave him a speed rating of 91, which is smart for a 2-year-old on debut. He has experience on his side in the 4.35 Ascot and it will take a good horse to beat him.
