Alben Star Ready To Hit Form
Often needs a few runs to sharpen up and undone by the steady pace last time.
There are several reasons why Alben Star cannot win the 1.45 Lingfield. The trip, a poor draw, his underwhelming form, but at 16/1 we only need find a few positives.
The biggest plus is that he was runner-up in the race last year to the excellent Pretend and although Muthmir and Take Cover have claims to be top sprinters we’ve not seen much of them this winter.
Last time out Alben Star could only finish tenth but the race wasn’t run to suit. On a windy day, the leaders set a steady pace and sprinted for the line. Almost everything in the race clocked under 22s for the final 2f and it proved impossible to make up any ground.
Alben Star was left with a hopeless task but still clocked the fourth fastest closing sectional.
Last year Richard Fahey ran the 8-year-old into form and it was only on his third start of the winter that he did himself justice. This afternoon will be his third start of the campaign. At 16/1 (Bet365) he is worth the risk.
