Aintree Tips: Zarkandar

Undone by the steady early pace in the World Hurdle. A stronger gallop and the return of blinkers can see him reverse positions with At Fishers Cross.

The World Hurdle turned out to be one of the strongest races at the Cheltenham Festival and the form is well represented in the 2.50 Aintree.

Zarkandar ran a fine race in fourth and there is a good chance he can find the 2 lengths needed to turnaround the form with At Fishers Cross.

The World Hurdle wasn’t run at a strong gallop with the leaders 3.9 second slower to halfway than the Pertemps Final earlier on the card. (Sectionals provided by the excellent Simon Rowlands at Timeform).

Held up in rear, Zarkandar was left with too much ground to make up as the leaders quickened. Racing up the hill, he gained four lengths on At Fishers Cross but unfortunately the finishing line came too soon.

To reverse the placings Zarkandar either needs a strong pace or to race more handily and both scenarios are possible.

Thousand Stars likes to make the running and Paul Nicholls has reached for the blinkers to improve the 7-year-old’s concentration.

With these positives, Zarkandar looks a good bet at 7/2 (BetVictor).
