Aintree Tips: Romain De Senam

Aintree Tips: Romain De Senam

Only beaten 6 lengths by Top Notch at the start of the season, has slipped down the weights since then and returns to optimal trip.

Paul Nicholls has been banging in the winners of late with eight in the last fortnight at a 33% strike rate. In the battle to be named Champion Trainer, he’ll need a good Aintree Festival but that’s perfectly possible given the quality and quantity of his runners.

Romain De Senam is one of his longer priced horses but he’s got a better chance than the odds suggest in the 4.40 Aintree.

He began the season with a 6 length second to Top Notch at Plumpton, which reads rather well considering what the Nicky Henderson horse has gone onto achieve.

Last time out he disappointed at Kempton by that was over 2m4f and he’s much better at the shorter trip he tackles today. A mark of 134 is workable, he was runner-up in the 2016 Fred Winter off 136 and there looks to be a big handicap in him.
