Aintree Tips: Kruzhlinin
Did fantastically well to finish tenth in the Grand National because it is a race that favours older horses. Step back in trip another positive.
The Becher Chase (1.30 Aintree) is run over the Grand National fences thus making it an unusual test for many of these horses.
Looking down the list of past winners, several enjoyed good results over the same obstacles before to their triumphs.
Recent Winners & Past Exploits
2013 Chance Du Roy: Second in Topham
2012 Hello Bud: Seventh in Grand National & previous Becher winner
2011 West End Rocker: Brought down in Grand National
2010 Hello Bud: Fifth in Grand National
2009 Vic Ventui: Campaigned in Ireland
Looking for horses with experience of Aintree’s idiosyncratic obstacles, Kruzhlinin stands out at 40/1.
He finished tenth in the Grand National a terrific effort for a 7-year-old. Younger generations tend to struggle in the blue riband event, the last 8-year-old winner was Bindaree in 2002 and the last 7-year-old to triumph was Bogskar in 1940!
All told it was a terrific effort from Kruzhlinin and the drop back in trip for the Becher should help further.
Last season he won twice, including when earning a Racing Post Rating of 153 at Kelso.
He will enjoy the strong pace and off a mark of 139 he looks well handicapped. Donald McCain should know the type of horse needed for Aintree and the 40/1 looks a steal.
