Zurich Classic Tips: Jaeger/Mitchell

Went to high school together and are good friends. Their games should also complement each other. Mitchell a big hitter and Jaeger a good putter. Both capable of going very low.

The Zurich Classic is a fun departure from the normal fare on the PGA Tour but team events aren’t easy to predict. Players compete in four rounds of fourballs and foursomes and in benign conditions last year’s winning score of 27-under could easily be reached and probably exceeded. I’m therefore looking for a pair of players capable of going low and have landed on Stephan Jaeger and Keith Mitchell.

Jaerger famously shot a 58 on the Web.com Tour and has a habit of going super-low, often out of the blue - which he’ll need to because he has precious little form to his name. On the plus side he’s got Keith Mitchell next to him.

The 26-year-old is enjoying a good season and recently finished second at the Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship. Currently ranked 10th in strokes gained off the tee and 26th in birdie average, Jaeger should enjoy playing his second shots in foursome from much closer to the green.

Both played on the Web.com Tour but they also went to high school together, roomed together and are good friends. Whether that has an impact on the results it’s hard to say but in an unusual tournament it’s worth taking any angle possible.
