Zurich Classic Tips: Patrick Rodgers

Has a similar game to last year’s champions Justin Rose. Drives it a long way and hits plenty of greens.

Patrick Rodgers burst onto the scene with a runners-up finish at the Wells Fargo Championship last May and cemented his position as a rising start on the tour with a string of top-10 finishes.

Twelve months on and Rodgers is the forgotten man. 2016 has been difficult for with six missed cuts in nine starts but there have been signs of improvement. The 23-year-old finished in the top-25 at Bay Hill and in Puerto Rico and TPC Louisiana should be right up his street.

Rodgers bears many similarities to defending champion Justin Rose. He is long off the tee (22nd in driving distance) and hits plenty of greens (16th for GIRs). For the same metrics Rose ranked 14th and 9th last season.

The problem comes on the greens, Rodgers in 175th in strokes gained putting but he is streaky, rather than plain bad and is a lively outsider at 150/1 (Coral).
