Young Canadian Making Waves

Young Canadians Making Waves

Corey Conners finished third last week on the PGA Tour Canada and was runner-up in the US Amateur Championship.

Last week served as a timely reminder that amateurs aren’t just there to make up the numbers. Whilst Paul Dunne, Jordan Niebrugge and Ollie Schniederjans were making waves at St. Andrews, Robby Shelton finished in the top-5 at the Barbasol Championship.

Go a little further back and Jon Rahm (no.1 amateur in the world) finished T5 at the Phoenix Open earlier in the season.

It proves that the best amateurs can cut it in professional tournaments and we can make money betting on them!

Although Corey Conners has recently tuned professional, he also falls into that category. The young Canadian was runner-up in the US Amateur Championship last year.

So far this seasons he’s missed five cuts on the PGA Tour but he did shoot a second round 69 at the Masters, so it’s clear the ability is there.

More recently, he’s been plying his trade on the PGA Tour Canada and with success. He has made 4/4 cuts and finished third at last week’s Stall Foundation Open.

This week he benefits from a sponsor’s invite, in what will be his third crack at his national championship.

The 23-year-old arrives in good form and crucially the experience won’t be completely new to him. It might seem a big ask, but inspired by his peers he could prove a great bet at 500/1 (Stan James).
