WNB Classic Trends

Midland CC

The Web.com Tour makes its annual stop in Texas for the WNB Golf Classic. We look at the trends of past winners.

The WNB Golf Classic is a regular tournament on the Web.com Tour, with Midland Country Club hosting for a 23rd consecutive year.

With plenty of course form some definite trends are apparent:

Top-60 on tour for birdie average
Scoring at Midland CC is usually low. Last year’s winner finished on 16-under and the last four champions ranked inside the top-60 on tour for birdie average.

Top-60 on tour for par 4 birdie or better
The par-5s are gettable for the majority of the pros but the difference between winning and losing comes on the par-4s. Last year’s champion Alex Aragon made 11 birdies and an eagle on them.

Top-60 on tour for birdie conversion
Making birdies is imperative; therefore you must take your chances.

Top-60 on tour for sand save percentage
The last four winners all ranked inside the top-60 for sand saves, meaning they didn’t throw away cheap shots.

Top-60 on tour for putting average
Low scoring tournaments are often decided on the green. That is the case at the WNB Classic where the last four champions ranked inside the top-60 for putting.

Players that fit all five trends:
Jon Curran 16/1 William Hill
Carlos Ortiz 18/1 Stan James
Blayne Barber 33/1 Ladbrokes
Jonathan Randolph 33/1 Stan James
Andrew Putnam 33/1 William Hill
Roland Thatcher 80/1 Ladbrokes
Whee Kim 100/1 Ladbrokes
Zack Sucher 90/1 Bet365
James Nitties 125/1 Ladbrokes
Aaron Goldberg 125/1 William Hill
Shane Bertsch 125/1 William Hill
Matt Weibring 250/1 Bet365
