WGC Mexico Championship: Patrick Reed

Finished T14 last year, the first time he's arrived in Mexico showing any sort of form and returns in similair vein. Approach play and putting working well and they could make the difference this week.

The WGC Mexico Championship is usually a great spectacle and speaking of people who have made a spectacle of themselves - i’m tipping Patrick Reed. Never one of the most popular players on tour; the only thing he’s managed to improve recently is his lie in a bunker. Passing moral judgement doesn’t come easily to someone writing about betting so i’ll quick pass-over his misdemeanour.

In terms of legitimate golf play there is plenty to like about Reed. His putting is back to being a strength again (20th in strokes gained this season) as his approach play and birdie average. These are all key to success at Chapultepec, along with the ability to shape shots. Reed has these skills in abundance and his poor driving is not a hindrance as the course is only 7,345 yards and plays shorter at altitude; he simply doesn’t need to hit booming drives.

His record in the event reads 61-37-14 but the first two years he arrived out of form something that cannot be said in 202 with a second place at the Tournament of Champions and a T6 at Torrey Pines.

He might not prove a popular winner unless you avail yourself of the 50/1 on offer with Betfred paying 6 places at 1/5 odds.
