WGC - Cadillac Championship Tips: Rory McIlroy

Proved at the Honda Classic he can control the direction of a tournament. On the verge of becoming a dominant force.

Perhaps not the most original tip but at 13/2 (Betfred) I’d like the best golfer on the planet in my portfolio of bets.

In years to come we will look back at his victory in the Honda Classic as a watershed moment. His ascent to world number one is a remarkable feat but it was the manner he got there that impressed me. Tiger Woods and Lee Westwood were lighting up the course, but Rory McIlroy responded with a succession of clutch putts. The flat stick was always the weakness in his arsenal, something his close friend Graeme McDowell recognised.

“That was the missing link, because the rest of his game is all there,” McDowell said. “As soon as he learned how to putt, he was going to be a dominating force, and you’re starting to see that now.”

It could be a very long time until McIlroy relinquishes his number one spot. I expect him to be no bigger than 3/1 to win golf tournaments soon, prices we haven’t seen since Tiger Woods was in his pomp. Make the most of the 13/2 (Betfred) while it lasts.
