WGC Bridgestone Invitational Tips: Rory McIlroy

Finished T9-T6-T5 in last three editions of the tournament and turned around his 2012 season at Firestone following a similar slump in form.

It has been a miserable season for Rory McIlroy, compounded by a missed cut at the Open but he’s too good a golfer for this malaise to become a permanent downturn.

We’ve seen these kind of slumps before and he usually finds a way back. A return to Firestone is therefore perfect timing. In the last three years he has finished T9-T6-T5; breaking par in 11 of his last 12 rounds.

Last year he arrived in a similar tailspin after missing the cut at the US Open and posting a T60 at the Open Championship, yet he bounced back with a T5 finish.

At some stage McIlory will turn the corner and that’s more likely to happen at one of his favourite courses. At 28/1 (Bet365) he rates a decent each-way bet with ¼ odds for a top-5 finish.
