Wells Fargo Tip: Wyndham Clark

Had a chance of winning to Honda Classic on another tough long course. One of the longest drivers on tour and his waywardness might not be an issue around Quail Hollow.

Quail Hollow hosts this week and the North Carolina course is a bit of a brute. It measures 7,600 yards and only 33 players finished under-par, with Jason Day winning on 12-under. Looking at the top ten and ties (12 players) it contained your usual collection of big hitters but hardly anyone was hitting fairways with any regularity. Of those 12 players only three hit over 60% of fairways and eight were under 54% with a median of 52.7%.

The recipe for Quail Hollow is therefore hit it long, not necessarily straight and make some putts; that is something Wyndham Clark has done all season. Currently 4th in driving distance, 203rd in accuracy and 12th for strokes gained putting it’s quite clear what his game is about. That said he’s made 12/16 cuts and had a chance of winning the Honda Classic, on another tough difficult to score on track.

Ignore last weeks missed cut at the Zurich and he’s not missed a stroke play weekend since early January (he DQ’d at The Players). That is a good body of work and he’s a big price at 175/1 with Skybet paying 8 places at 1/5 odds.
