Valspar Championship Tips: Will MacKenzie

Will MacKenzie win the Valspar?

Ranked third in strokes gained tee-to-green this season and looked injury free in finishing T6 last week.

Will MacKenzie’s year only got under way at the Honda Classic in March due to a sore left hand but a T6 last week in Puerto Rico suggests he is over his injuries.

This is terrific news for the 40-year-old because he’s started the wrap-around season in terrific form. In his last five tournaments, he’s finished P2-T52-T9-MC-T6.

The Copperhead Course at Innisbrook is one of the toughest on tour and you have to be in control of your ball to shoot a good score. This puts MacKenzie firmly in the frame because he is third on tour in strokes gained tee-to-green.

It has been seven years since he last tasted victory but he finished T4 at the Valspar last year and lost in a playoff at the McGladrey Classic in October.

In a rich vein of form he is a good each-way bet at 80/1 (Stan James).
