Texas Open Tips: Luke List

Texas Open Tips: Luke List

One of the longest on tour and putting has improved in the last month. Finished T29 last year and T3 two starts back in Houston.

It’s not often I back just one player for a PGA Tournament but he is the outstanding value in the market so there is not point beating around the bush. Luke List has the tools to become a star on the PGA Tour and San Antonio could be the perfect venue.

List started the wraparound season strongly with five consecutive top-26 finishes, there followed a lull at the start of the calendar year but he’s back in the groove again.

A terrific ball striker, he is third in driving distance and 19th in adjusted scoring average but his weakness is on the greens. His quiet period coincided with some atrocious putting performances and although he’s not exactly Jordan Spieth on the greens there has been improvement. List gained strokes putting in two of his last four starts and at the Heritage and Valspar he was losing less than a stroke per round on the field.

A missed cut at Harbour Town wasn’t a disaster as the tight course negates his power advantage but nevertheless he signed for a 67 on Friday, just falling short of making the weekend.

Two starts back he finished an impressive T3 at the Shell Houston Open and he can go well again in Texas. He finished T29 last year but was comfortably inside the top-20 going into Sunday. He returns a more experienced player and having gone close a few times this season, now is his time to win at 60/1.
