Texas Open Tips: Kevin Chappell

Arrives on the back of his best result of the season, a T14 finish at Bay Hill. Runner-up in 2011 and finished T15 last year.

Kevin Chappell is looking for his first tour win but after a couple of near misses he could break his duck in San Antonio this week.

The 27-year-old has been solid rather than spectacular but he registered his highest finish of the season at Bay Hill with a T14 finish.

Chappell managed to break par in all four rounds at Arnie’s event but missed putts prevented him from finishing any higher.

The flat stick is still the Californian’s big weakness (currently 140th in strokes gained putting) but TPC San Antonio is more of a ball striker’s venue than a putting competition.

Of the last four winners only Ben Curtis would be classed as an excellent putter, the rest all ranked outside the top-100 in strokes gained putting.

Chappell was runner-up in 2011 and finished T15 last year. It’s a course that suits him and he looks a great each-way bet at 40/1 with Paddy Power who pay 6 places.
