US Open Tips: Gary Woodland

Has six top-20 finishes in his last eight starts and his length will be an advantage at Pinehurst.

Sticking with our Masters theme our second selection is also a player we tipped at Augusta – Gary Woodland.

The 30-year-old has the game to win a major and with Pinehurst stretching to 7,495 yards his power off the tee will be an advantage.

Don’t be fooled however, Woodland isn’t just a bomber. Since moving to Butch Harmon there’s been an improvement to his all-round game. He ranks 59th for scrambling and 37th in the tour’s all-around ranking.

Woodland arrives at the US Open in good form; he has six top-20 finishes in his last eight starts and has missed just one cut all season.

His record in majors is moderate but he’s still young in golfing terms and I expect him to make his mark soon. At 80/1 (BetVictor) he is a great each-way bet with ¼ odds for a top-6 finish.
