US Open Tips: Branden Grace

No player on the European or PGA Tour has won more events in 2012. A rapidly improving player, underrated by the bookmakers.

With three European tour wins already in 2012, there isn’t a player on either side of the Atlantic that has visited the winners’ enclosure more frequently than Branden Grace. The 24-year-old South African is enjoying a sparkling breakthrough year that has seen him rise to a career high 54th in the world rankings.

Encouragingly this hot run of form shows no sign of abating. Grace finished 5th at the BMW PGA Championship last month, one of the strongest events on the European Tour. All these results point to a player who is destined to compete at the highest level for some time to come.

It is therefore surprising that Grace finds himself quoted at 200/1 (Betfred) to win the US Open. Granted it is only the fourth time he has played in a major but he is a completely different player to the one that missed the cut at the British Open last year.

Sitting fourth in the Race to Dubai, Branden Grace actually finds himself above the likes of Lee Westwood, Luke Donald and Charl Schwartzel. He might be mopping up so-called ‘weaker’ tour events but at 200/1 (Betfred) he is underrated by the bookmakers. Back him each-way and get ¼ odds for a top-6 finish.
