US Open Tips: Bo Van Pelt

Has an excellent all-round game and T14 at Congressional last year suggested a liking for the US Open.

For my first selection, I’m repeating my Masters tip – Bo Van Pelt. A closing round of 64 wasn’t enough to threaten the leaders at Augusta but Van Pelt is starting to rack up a good set of results at the majors. The 37-year-old has now finished in the top-20 in three of the last five and the experience he has gained could be invaluable.

Perhaps not one of the ‘star names’ on the PGA Tour, his record stands up to scrutiny alongside the best. He has eight top-25 finishes in 13 PGA Tour events this season and ranks 3rd in the ‘all-around ranking’. A long hitter and an excellent putter, there are very few weaknesses in his game.

Last year Van Pelt recovered from a poor opening round of 76 to finish T14 at the US Open at Congressional. If he had just managed level par on the opening round, he would have finished third.

The Olympic Club is the perfect test for one of the most consistent golfers on tour. If his putter gets hot, he could do some damage at 66/1 (Bet365). Back Bo Van Pelt each-way with ¼ odds for a top-6 finish.
