US Open: Marc Leishman

Has an excellent record at Torrey Pines; previous winner with four further top-10 finishes. Arrives relatively under the radar but has plenty of experiences in majors and this test looks ideal.

The US Open visits Torrey Pines this year which brings the interesting element of course form to the equation. The set-up will be different from the PGA Tour but the course fundamentals will not change. Torrey Pines is long, fairways are hard to find and you can get some brutal lies in the rough.

This hasn’t stopped Marc Leishman who won at Torrey Pines in 2020 and has four further top-10 finishes to his name. The Australian arrives at the US Open relatively lightly raced; his very recent form (21-MC-57) doesn’t scream major champion but he won the team event that is the Zurich Classic and finished 5th at the Masters.

After numerous near misses in majors he’s served his apprenticeship and looks a fair bet at 66/1 to get in the mix with Paddy Power and Betfair paying 1/5 odds and 10 places.

For those looking at a portfolio, others on the shortlist were Ryan Palmer, Lanto Griffin, Wyndham Clark and Taylor Pendrith - all at long odds.
